PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: January 28, 2019
Salt Lake City, UT – With the 2019 Legislative Session now underway, Alliance for a Better Utah is speaking out against the multiple bills — both already introduced and those anticipated — seeking to undermine the will of the people by not fully expanding Utah’s Medicaid program, as envisioned under the recently passed Proposition 3. Better Utah will be present at the Rally Against Repeal being held in the Capitol Rotunda at 3:30pm this afternoon to speak out against such repeal efforts and to urge lawmakers to respect the will of the people.
Chase Thomas, Better Utah executive director, issued the following statement:
“Utah voters sent a clear message to lawmakers in November — Utahns want full Medicaid expansion. They wanted to ensure that tens of thousands of Utahns are able to access healthcare. They were willing to even raise their own taxes in pursuit of this compassionate goal.
“Utahns are now sending another clear message to lawmakers — they still want full Medicaid expansion. The underlying purpose of the initiative should be honored and the 150,000 Utahns who expect to receive coverage should still be able to do so on April 1st. Any changes to the proposition, including questions of increased funding, should start and end with the promise to uphold the legislative intent of Propositions 3: full Medicaid expansion and nothing less.”
