Press Release: Better Utah statement on fetal remains mandate

PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: March 4, 2020

Salt Lake City, UT – Following debate and passage of SB 67, Disposition of Fetal Remains, in the State House, Lauren Simpson, policy director for Alliance for a Better Utah, issued the following statement:

“As a result of Rep. Ray Ward’s thoughtful amendment, the true intent of this bill was exposed today on the House floor. The purpose of this bill has always been to further the extremist agenda of a small group of people about the deeply personal and sensitive issue of abortion. Instead of treating all fetal tissue equally, this bill allows for different treatment based on whether a woman had a miscarriage or an abortion.

“Utah already has over 30 restrictions on abortion, and recent polling shows that 80% of Utahns do not want more restrictions. Conservative legislators are once again ignoring what the people of Utah want in order to push forward their ideology.”
