SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC4 Utah) The United States Secretary of Education, Betsy DeVos, was in town for a speech Tuesday afternoon and hundreds of Utahns wanted her to know she’s not welcome.
The protest happened outside the Grand America Hotel. They were there to criticize the secretary for her views on public schools and let her know they don’t agree with what she stands for.
“We just want her to know that education is important, public education is important. We want her to listen to the people and you know what we need in public education, not so much what she thinks we might need, we just want her to listen as we’re speaking out,” said Kim Eberhard, protester.
Advocacy groups Utahns Speak Out and Utah Indivisible organized Tuesday’s protest.
