Press Release: Sean Reyes’ partisan actions embarrass Utah

Salt Lake City, UT – Utah Attorney General Sean Reyes joined other Republican state attorneys general on Wednesday to submit an amicus brief to the United States Supreme Court in support of Texas’ unprecedented request to overturn the certified election results of four states.

Chase Thomas, executive director for Alliance for a Better Utah, issued the following statement in response:

“The basis of American democracy is that the people pick their leaders, leaders do not pick their voters. Sean Reyes’ continued effort to delegitimize a democratic election—one the federal government has deemed the ‘most secure in American history’—by throwing out people’s votes is beyond the pale for a state attorney general. Escalating this partisan warfare to the Supreme Court can only be regarded as one final desperate Hail Mary in an attempt to maintain party control at the expense of the people. Sean Reyes’ partisan backflips continue to show that he is unfit to be Utah’s chief law enforcement officer.  Utah leaders from all political parties should condemn his actions on behalf of our state.”

Alliance for a Better Utah is a nonprofit that holds politicians accountable and advocates for progressive policies that make Utah an even better place. The organization improves the lives of all Utahns through advocacy, transparency, and accountability in Utah politics, policy, and government. More information at

  1. What can be done to stop Sean Reyes? Please sign me up. You should not be able to lie and cheat (while accusing the other side of lying and cheating, also known as “projecting”) your way into the election result you want, that will benefit you. This is out of control and extremely scary for the future of our democracy.

  2. I left a message on his voicemail about how upset I am with his actions. 30+ courts have dismissed the Trump Administrations frivolous lawsuits and will do the same with this one. Reyes took it upon himself to not only use OUR tax dollars to support the Amicus Brief. He didn’t even consult the Governor. Reyes should immediately pull out of this embarrassing waste of time and money and stay in his own lane!!!
