BETTER UTAH RESPONDS TO SPECIAL ELECTION TIMELINE

– – – – – –

Salt Lake City, UT – In response to Lt. Governor Spencer Cox’s announcement today laying out the timeline for the upcoming special election to replace Rep. Jason Chaffetz, Chase Thomas, policy and advocacy counsel for Alliance for a Better Utah, issued the following statement:

“While we are still reviewing the timeline and any impacts it may have on voter participation, we are grateful the Lt. Governor laid out a process mirroring existing election law and preserving the SB54 compromise. The constituents of District 3 deserve to be involved at every step of the process in electing their new representative, and it is our hope that this process will allow for the greatest possible access to the ballot for those voters. If any issues arise as they have in various states across the nation that have been holding special elections, we hope the Lt. Governor will approach those issues with a mind towards keeping the process transparent and open to voters in the district.”
