ABORTION BILL IS UNCONSTITUTIONAL WASTE OF TAXPAYER DOLLARS

Salt Lake City, UT – Today, UtahPolicy.com broke the story of a new bill that has been released by Representative Cheryl Acton which would outlaw abortion in Utah after 15 weeks. The bill would be one of the strictest in the nation and would fly in the face of Roe v. Wade, the monumental decision by the Supreme Court of the United States which allows abortion up through the point of viability.

Lauren Simpson, policy director for Alliance for a Better Utah, issued the following statement:

“Rep. Acton’s bill is unconstitutional. Our state lawmakers are once again attempting to chip away at safe and legal abortion access. Luckily, such attempts to restrict women’s rights do not hold up in the courts.”

“Message bills such as this abortion ban are an embarrassment to our state. There are so many wonderful projects and causes that are denied funding each year because of a lack of funding. We should invest our taxpayer dollars in those priorities, rather than paying more lawyers to defend patently unconstitutional bills.”
