PRESIDENT ADAMS IS OUT: BETTER UTAH HOLDS ADAMS ACCOUNTABLE
No politician, not even the President of the Utah State Senate, is above accountability.
Salt Lake City, UT – As the polls closed on primary election day, Alliance for a Better Utah touted its success in holding Senator Adams accountable.
Elizabeth Hutchings, communications manager for Alliance for a Better Utah, said:
“We knew he needed to go, and so did the voters in District 7. This wasn’t an accident: Adams losing his re-election is a direct consequence of him putting Legislative power grabs over his constituents. We got involved in the primary because we believe that no politician, not even the long-time President of the Utah State Senate, is above accountability.”
Alliance for a Better Utah raised the funds and led the coalition that organized against incumbent Senator Stuart Adams. In total, over $100,000 was spent by People for a Better Utah PAC and aligned partners in an effort to demonstrate Adams’ poor ethics, shameful voting record, power grabs, and self-serving actions in office. As the results show, the people of Senate District 7 agreed: it was time for Adams to go.
Hutchings continued,“Adams has spent the last few years in office fighting against the best interests of Utahns. He has used taxpayer money to try to steal away fair voting maps from Utahns, undermined unions and working families, and prioritized culture wars over action on the Great Salt Lake.
“Other lawmakers should take note: Utahns are tired of being ignored by those they trusted with leadership. Whatever happens in November, there will be new representation for District 7, and fresh leadership in the Senate.”
Senate District 7 has not had new leadership since before Adams was elected in 2009. He has come under fire for abuses of power over the last year, including for suspicious timing on PAC donations and seemingly using his position of power to influence a change in the law to benefit a family member. He also has been accused of campaign finance law violations and received backlash for accepting a free trip from the Qatari government.
