Salt Lake City, UT – On the eve of the final Outdoor Retailer Show in Salt Lake, the ABU Education Fund will release a comprehensive report outlining Utah’s coal and outdoor recreation economies and the implications of their futures at a press conference on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at 10:30 AM.

Date: Tuesday, July 25, 2017

Time: 10:30 AM

Location: Wasatch Room (2nd floor), Impact Hub, 150 S State St., SLC, UT 84111

Speakers:

  • Jonathan Ruga, Co-Chair of Alliance for a Better Utah Board (affiliate of the ABU Education Fund)

  • Suzanne Catlett – President of the Escalante & Boulder Chamber of Commerce

  • Ron Johnson – Owner of the Boulder Mountain Guest Ranch

Prior to the Outdoor Retailer Show leaving, many of Utah’s leading public officials called to rescind and scale back national monument designations to essentially open up land for coal and other mineral extraction. Better Utah’s report, “Moving Forward: Utah’s Future Beyond Coal,” takes a look at the underlying facts about Utah’s declining coal industry and looks at the economic impact of Utah’s outdoor industry – emphasizing the importance of preserving public lands in Utah, including the boundaries of Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument.
