Overview of Utah Legislative Session
The legislative session is the 45 day period when the house and the senate meet at the State Capitol to propose, debate, and vote on nearly all state legislation for the year. It’s also when the state budget is balanced.
The session begins on the first Tuesday after the third Monday in January (the Tuesday immediately following Martin Luther King Jr. Day).
How To Find Topics & Bills You Care About
Connect With Advocacy Organizations
There are hundred of bills released each year, but luckily, there are many Utah organizations that are very involved in the legislative session. The easiest way to stay in the loop is to connect with organizations who align with your values and sign up for email/text updates, follow them on social media and enjoy the customized information about topics you care about.
They have expert staff members that will break down what you need to know and how to get involved on key bills.
Here are some organizations including our own, that have bill trackers where you can view bills that are being monitored by those organizations.
