Salt Lake City, UT – Yesterday, Governor Spencer Cox signed into law HB 257 and HB 261. Jeff Merchant, Executive Director for Alliance for a Better Utah, issued the following statement in response:
“By rushing through these bills at the beginning of the legislative session, the Utah GOP has shown us their priority this year: attacking Utah’s marginalized communities as part of a larger, national culture war. Instead of finding Utah-based solutions, extreme legislators are taking extreme positions driven by out-of-state special interests.
“Governor Cox had a chance to right some very serious wrongs this week, and he failed to do so not once, but twice. Not only did he fail to protect Utahns, but even more, he failed to protect our ideals as an open community dedicated to freedom and strong families.”
