“Burwash Scandal” Is No Laughing Matter

Mike Winder, candidate for Salt Lake County Mayor, told the media today that the Richard Burwash scandal was “no big deal.” Better UTAH responded with this press release:

For Immediate Release: Tuesday, June 13, 2012

Burwash” Is No Laughing Matter
_________________________________________________________________________

As Mike Winder continues to make light of the “Richard Burwash” scandal, the Alliance for a Better UTAH says that lying to voters is no laughing matter.

Actions have consequences,” says Maryann Martindale, Executive Director of the Alliance for a Better UTAH. “We understand that Mr. Winder is hoping that by laughing the scandal off, then voters will do the same. The reality is that he lied to his constituents and the people of Utah, and no matter how “well meaning” his intentions may have been, it is completely inappropriate for him to say that he wants the issue to “just go away.’”

It’s not up to a political candidate to tell the people when an issue is over,” Martindale added. “It is for the voters to decide what matters in an election, and if Mr. Winder thinks that fraudulent activity isn’t a ‘big deal,’ them come June 26th, he may find out the hard way that voters think otherwise.”
