Salt Lake City — The Alliance for a Better UTAH has named Lauren Howells as its first Karen Shepherd Fellow.
Better UTAH launched the Karen Shepherd Internship for Ethics and Good Government in May 2014, continuing a 20 year program run by former Utah Congresswoman Karen Shepherd. Naming Ms. Howells as Better UTAH’s first Karen Shepherd Fellow represents the expansion of of the internship program to include paid fellowships.

Ms. Howells is a JD/MBA candidate at the University of Utah. Earlier this year, she received the first Legislative Policy Fellowship through a program established between the ABU Education Fund and the S.J. Quinney College of Law at the University of Utah, a fellowship program that combines the College of Law’s focus on public service and the ABU Education Fund’s focus on civic engagement with the aim of equipping new lawyers with skills in local legislative policy.

Josh Kanter, Founder and Board President of the Alliance for a Better UTAH, said “We’re thrilled to be working with Lauren again and to name her the first Karen Shepherd Fellow. It’s hard to imagine anyone better suited to be our first Karen Shepherd Fellow than Lauren. She is an eager and capable student, seeking her JD/MBA at the University of Utah, and she is committed to the ideals of transparent and ethical government ideals embodied by Congressman Shepherd’s many years of public service.”
