Salt Lake City, UT – Alliance for a Better Utah has published a survey seeking input from Utahns on the current congressional plan to “repeal and replace” the Affordable Care Act, otherwise known as Obamacare. In connection with the congressional effort to repeal and replace Obamacare as soon as possible, Congress has asked state leaders for input about what they would like to see in any Obamacare replacement. However, Utah’s congressional delegation has failed to seek input from the hundreds of thousands of Utahns who will be directly impacted by any repeal and replacement of the ACA.
Better Utah’s survey is available at http://speakuputah.org. Better Utah will be launching a social media campaign to ensure that Utahns across the state will have the opportunity to share their stories.
Chase Thomas, policy and advocacy counsel with Alliance for a Better Utah, issued the following statement in conjunction with the survey’s release:
“Members of Congress, including those from Utah’s delegation, continue with their plan to repeal Obamacare as fast as possible, despite the fact that tens of thousands of Utahns have benefitted from the ACA and enrollment in Utah’s Marketplace continues to skyrocket. Any effort to repeal and replace must recognize and address the fact that the ACA was the result of a grand bargain among a number of constituencies. Congress will be hardpressed to keep the most popular aspects of the ACA while jettisoning the least popular.
“If our representatives are resolved to dismantle the ACA, we sincerely hope that they will listen to those hundreds of thousands of Utahns who will be directly impacted so that the scope and quality of their coverage will not be diminished. Decisions by members of Congress who benefit from the gold standard of healthcare coverage without consideration of the needs of their constituents poses great risk to those who are actually benefiting from the ACA. We encourage Utahns across the state to speak up on this important issue and make sure their voices are heard.”
Survey results will be published and forwarded to Utah’s Congressional Delegation.
