Press Release: Senators Lee and Romney must vote for resolution to block Trump’s false emergency

PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: March 11, 2019

Salt Lake City, UT – In February following President Trump’s unnecessary declaration of a state of emergency over border wall funding, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution to block the declaration. This week, the Senate is expected to vote on the resolution, S.J. Res.10. Last week, Alliance for a Better Utah started a petition calling on both Utah Senators to vote for the resolution. The petition, started Thursday, has almost 200 signatures.

“This is a no-brainer for Senators Lee and Romney,” said Chase Thomas, executive director of Alliance for a Better Utah. “Both Senators have gone on record as being against the emergency declaration. And Senator Lee, since the beginning of his tenure as a Congressman, has been outspoken about executive overreach. This is a perfect time for both Senators to put their votes where their words are and show the country that the Utah way means integrity above party.”
