Salt Lake City, UT – This afternoon, state lawmakers spoke at a rally help by Abortion Free Utah, a new radical coalition aiming to undermine the constitutional rights of Utahns. Utah State Senator Dan McCay announced he was opening a bill file to end elective abortion altogether in Utah, a direct violation of a woman’s Constitutional rights.

Lauren Simpson, policy director for Alliance for a Better Utah, said the following:

“Eliminating the right to safe abortions would have disastrous consequences for our state, leading to unsafe abortions and putting womens’ lives at risk. We know some state lawmakers have deep personal feelings about abortion, but by imposing their personal views onto state law, they are advocating for policies that would harm the constituents they were elected to serve.

“Instead of trying to restrict access to abortion, state lawmakers should spend their time on legislation that would actually help women and families. Utah needs expanded access to contraceptives, comprehensive sex education in public schools, better air quality, which will lower our high miscarriage rates, and pro-family economic policies that make it easier to have a child.”
