Press Release: Better Utah statement on non-consensual ultrasound bill passed by men

PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: March 10, 2020

Salt Lake City, UT – Following debate and passage of HB 364, Abortion Revisions, in the State Senate, Lauren Simpson, policy director for Alliance for a Better Utah, issued the following statement:

“All the women, both Democrats and Republicans, walked off the floor today during the vote. Only men voted to force women to have an ultrasound against their will.

“We’ve heard a lot of grandstanding on the Hill this year about how proud lawmakers are about the fact that Utah was the first state where a woman voted. But when the time comes for these men to stand up for women in a way that matters, a majority of Utah Senators failed the test.

“This bill is punitive and cruel. It is bad medical practice and takes away women’s fundamental personal agency. We recognize and thank the Senators who voted against this bill.”
