Salt Lake City — Governor Herbert called for the FBI to speed up its investigation regarding potential criminal wrongdoing on the part of Utah Attorney General John Swallow in his monthly KUED news conference Wednesday night.
The criminal investigation is just one of at least three investigations currently underway. A complaint alleging potential violations of the Utah Rules of Professional Conduct has been filed with the Utah Bar Association and a complaint alleging election law violations has been filed with the Lt. Governor’s office. Both remain unresolved. Maryann Martindale, Better UTAH Executive Director, has issued the following statement in response to Governor Herbert’s call for the expeditious resolution of the criminal investigation into Attorney General Swallow’s actions:
“The Governor correctly notes that the cloud overhanging the Attorney General must be removed as quickly as possible for the good of the Attorney General’s office and for the good of the state. That cloud, however, is comprised of more than just the Federal criminal investigation. We hope that the Governor also endorses and encourages the speedy and complete investigation of the other complaints outstanding against the Attorney General – specifically those filed with the Utah Bar Association and the Lt. Governor’s office. Our Attorney General simply cannot effectively do his job until all of these issues that threaten his integrity and that of his office have been cleared up. ”
