Community Leaders Stand United to Close Utah’s Coverage Gap Now

Salt Lake City – The Interim Session on July 15, 2015 will mark the 898th day since Utah had the first opportunity to expand healthcare coverage to our most vulnerable brothers, sisters, family, friends and neighbors. After a series of self-imposed deadlines, Utah’s legislative body has missed yet another deadline to make a decision regarding the expansion of healthcare. This decision was deferred in the 2013, 2014 and 2015 legislative sessions, and now the House leadership is delaying again, suggesting there will be no headway until the 2016 legislative session. Given the repeated studies and reports showing the strong economic evidence of expanding health coverage, our legislators are failing to lead and protect our state’s physical and financial future. We need action now. With over eighty percent of Utahns in favor of Healthy Utah, we need our legislators to enact the legislation that will enable Healthy Utah to provide healthcare access to tens of thousands of Utahns who are at risk without coverage. Utahns are #StillWaiting.
