Press Release: The People Have Spoken

PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: November 20, 2018

Salt Lake City, UT – Today, final votes from the remaining counties in Utah were certified, making official the successes of Propositions 2, 3, and 4. Chase Thomas, executive director of Alliance for a Better Utah, issued the following statement:

“Today is an excellent day for the voters of Utah. Hundreds of thousands of Utahns raised their voices through their votes and sent a loud, strong message that they support the legalization of medical cannabis, expansion of Medicaid, and creation of a process for fair redistricting. We are thrilled to see that these policies have the hearts and minds of Utahns.

“To lawmakers who might now seek to undermine the will of the people, we remind them of the co-equal legislative power that Utahns hold under the Utah Constitution. While small legislative changes may be necessary to implement these initiatives in harmony with the rest of Utah code, any attempt to alter the policies in the initiatives through alteration, repeal, or suit would be an action against the constitutional power of the citizens of Utah to alter their government through the initiative process.

“The people have spoken. It’s time for the Legislature to listen.”
