Press Release: San Juan County Clerk Must Immediately Resign From Office

PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: August 11, 2018

SAN JUAN COUNTY CLERK MUST IMMEDIATELY RESIGN FROM OFFICE

Salt Lake City, UT – Following a federal judge’s finding that San Juan County Clerk John Nielson falsified an official document which led to the contested removal of Willie Grayeyes from the November ballot, Alliance for a Better Utah called for Nielson’s immediate resignation from office.

Katie Matheson, communications director with Alliance for a Better Utah, issued the following statement in response:

“While we continue to support an investigation into his actions, we now call on Mr. Nielson to immediately resign from his office. Mr. Nielson’s intentional falsification of an official county document resulting in the improper disqualification of a political candidate is a serious ethical violation and categorically unacceptable. Elections are quickly approaching and San Juan County residents deserve a county clerk who they can trust to justly uphold the state’s election laws.”

Alliance for a Better Utah has released a petition asking for Mr. Nielson’s immediate resignation and urges San Juan County and Utah residents to join in calling for his resignation. The petition can be found here: http://act.betterutah.org/sign/san-juan-county-clerk-must-immediately-resign-office/.
