BETTER UTAH ANNOUNCES NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Salt Lake City, UT – Today, good government group, Alliance for a Better Utah, announced that Chase Thomas has been named executive director. Thomas previously was the policy and advocacy counsel for the group, and first joined the organization in January 2016 as a policy and advocacy fellow from BYU Law School.

Josh Kanter, Better Utah founder and board chair, issued the following statement:

“We are so thrilled to announce Chase’s new position as Executive Director for Alliance for a Better Utah. Over the past years since joining ABU, Chase has been a guiding voice for the organization, and we look forward to Chase’s leadership over the coming years as he leads us into our next phase of growth.

“As the nation continues to witness the downsizing of the traditional media and the media’s role in government accountability, it is more important than ever that accountability organizations like ours have strong leadership at the helm. Chase brings a strong background in policy and government to his new role, and his extensive knowledge will continue to guide us in the coming years.”

For the past year and a half, Thomas has been the policy and advocacy counsel with Alliance for a Better Utah. He joined Better Utah in January 2016 as a policy and advocacy associate, made possible by a generous year-long fellowship from BYU’s J. Reuben Clark Law School, from which Chase graduated cum laude in April 2015.

During his time at BYU Law, Thomas interned with the ACLU of Utah and the ACLU’s LGBT Project in New York City. He was an editor of the BYU Law Review, chair of the Annual International Law and Religion Symposium, and president of the BYU Law Student Chapter of the American Constitution Society. Originally from Arizona, Thomas graduated with a degree in political science from Arizona State University in 2012.
